"Chateaudouble Cat"

Drawing 2

Drawing 1

We met this cat in Chateuadouble, a beautiful town in Provence with magnificent views. I love the way the name is pronounced in French (Sha-toh-dew-blay). This little guy gave me a couple of poses (he'll be back again tomorrow). This time, it took two passes to get a drawing I liked and I'm showing both. Which one do you like best?

If only it was as quick to do an oil sketch as a drawing! I think that the freedom of being able to just toss it, makes it so much easier to get a good one. No pressure.

  1. I think I like the first one best. Nothing against the second one, there is just something about it. They are both very nice. You're right that a drawing can feel more fresh than a painting, more spontaneous. Maybe because it is usually done on paper, versus a panel, a canvas, or something more substantial.

  2. Very nice cat series. I'd vote for the first drawing. The cat almost has a look of condescension - for humans, no doubt!

  3. I love the French pronunciation here ;)
All foreign menus should be phonetically spelled in parentheses :D
I love your drawings. Very succinct. Great lines.
