"Snow Fence"

Snow Fence
6"x6" oil on Raymar panel

Value under painting for Snow Fence in burnt sienna and ultramarine blue

This is another painting for one of my gallery holiday shows. Both galleries asked for paintings to view so that they can make a selection and gave me their preferences for subject matter. I appreciate their feedback and will post their choices as soon as the choosing is over.

A big thanks to Mary Tetro for the photo I painted this from, a lovely New England harbor.

Local Colors at the Coastal Maine Botanical Garden

"Iris"
6"x6" oil on Raymar panel

This month, River Arts is having an exhibition at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay Harbor. I'm honored to have one of my paintings (above) chosen for this show. The show runs April 1 - May 24, and there is an opening reception on Thursday, April 12, 5-7 pm in the Visitor's Center. Here's a description of the show from the Gardens:

This exhibit showcases talented midcoast artists’ expressions of Maine. The Gardens is honored to be partnering with one of the region’s newest and most exciting galleries, the non-profit organization River Arts Gallery of Damariscotta, whose mission is to nurture appreciation, encourage participation and provide opportunity in the arts.

The show is particularly exciting for me, because I love the gardens, and I've had a wonderful association with River Arts, both attending and giving workshops there. If you are in the area, I hope you'll stop by, check out the paintings, and enjoy the gardens.

"Normandy Trees"

"Normandy Trees"

Here's another for our upcoming show featuring paintings of Normandy. I'm pleased with what I learned about painting skys on our recent trip to Normandy with instructor Carolyn Walton. The trip was organized and run by Joelle Feldman. Take a look at Joelle's pastels for the show on her blog. They are beautiful.

"Moonlight in Paris"

"Moonlight in Paris"
6"x6" oil on Raymar panel

The temptation to name this one "Midnight in Paris" was strong, but it wasn't midnight when Mary and I were walking along the Seine near the pont des Arts and saw the beautiful lighted dome of the Institut de France. Once again, for our upcoming show. Wouldn't it have been fun to actually paint this as a nocturne, en plein air?

It's really had to photograph something this dark, this is a little red despite my Photoshop magic.

"Sparkle"

Another plein air painting from my trip to Acadia. This one was done at the tip of the schoodic Penninsula, looking into the sun. What a beautiful spot!
